Not again...

If you weren't already aware, I will tell you now that I am notorious for getting locked out of my house. You'd think by now I'd have hidden a spare key outside, but I haven't. I did get one made, but it's still inside, on the desk, waiting to be hidden. Whole heaping lot of good it's doing me there!

Well, I came back to the door after walking Griffin this afternoon to find that the lovely breezes that I had been enjoying on our walk had conspired against me and pulled the door closed, and it was, of course, locked. Argh!! No phone, no key (I've got to hide that thing!), and I've got the dog. What to do??

Then I remembered- I've got the windows open!!  Thank the Lord for pretty weather!! So, I went 'round back to my kitchen window, the base of which is about level with my stomach, pushed up the screen, and attempted to get in. As I was lying on my stomach on the windowsill, wondering how I was going to avoid crash landing inside (it's not a big window), my gaze came to rest on my low lying dining room window, which was also open!! Realizing that this was the far better option, I heaved myself back out, trudged around to the front, wedged in behind the bushes, and easily stepped through the window into my house. SUCCESS!!!!  *fist pump* Then, I went out and untied Griffin from the grill and brought him in. So, that is the story of my first time entering my home through a window. Now I can go bake some cupcakes for youth club, and then find a place for my spare key!

Anybody else have a similar story they'd like to share?

  2. When the girls were 1 and 2 years old, I smoked. (yes, I know, *gross*)Our kitchen door was glass so I would go out on the back deck and leave with girls in the kitchen where I could see them. Great plan until Macy decided to lock the door! And since she was 2, she had no idea how to unlock it. I tried going through the kitchen window but only managed to tear up the screen. I ended up running to a neighbors house and having them call 911!! The police officer picked my lock with her credit card!

  3. Robyn- Yes, I've been told that no matter what else I may hear, to always remember that "Momma/Betty did it!!" Hahaha!

Julie- That is too funny! (Although I'm sure it wasn't at the time). I've heard about little kids locking parents out of cars, but never the house!! I'm not sure that it's all that comforting that calling 911 netted you an officer with a credit card. Can we say low budget?!

    Thanks for sharing!!

  4. I guess now that I don't live there anymore, my mom won't freak out too much when she hears this, but when I lived in Virginia I locked myself out and found out that I could unlock my door with a credit card! Never needed a key again :-)

  7. I, too, have crawled through a window to get into my house. And I think I made Destiny crawl through one time, too!

I also remember when Destiny was about 1 or 2 years old, we were at school late (my mom was working or it was after practice?). Anyway, I was running through the upstairs hallways with her chasing me laughing and having a good ol' time. We got to a set of double doors that had four diamond shaped windows cut out in it...two which were low enough for her to see out. I thought it would be fun to play peek-a-boo through the window. So, I went outside and after a minute or two of peek-a-boo, I went to open the door to get her. Um...the door was locked. She was just standing there on the other side smiling not realizing peek-a-boo was over and panic had set it. It was late...the school was practically a ghost town. I couldn't leave to go get help...what if she turned around and wandered off?? I started yelling at the top of my lungs until someone heard me. I had him go around to the front of the school and come to open the door from the inside. Must have traumatized me because I have a terrible memory and I remember that like it was yesterday!

Good grief - that was a long comment! :)
